Da'Quan Bowers 2011 NFL Draft Stock May Be Slipping Out Of Top 10

Before the 2011 NFL Combine in February, most 2011 NFL mock drafts had Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers has a sure top five pick in the 2011 NFL draft. It seems every year there are a couple of uber-athletic defensive ends in the draft that are picked early.

That was Bowers. Key word: was. Bowers' stock is slipping after he turned in a so-so pro day last week at Clemson. Peter King of SI.com predicts Bowers star has fall far enough that he won't even be a top 10 pick on April 28.

And to show how far his star has fallen, only one coach (Ken Whisenhunt) and two general managers (Thomas Dimitroff, Buddy Nix] attended the workout. He ran two 40-yard dashes in the 4.95-second range. To show you how mediocre a time that is, understand that 11 of the 14 tight ends at the Scouting Combine in February ran faster than 4.9.

While the signs are pointing to him to fall, remember two things: First, it's Liars' Month. Draft season means lots of lies floating around so you have to try to separate the fact from the fiction. Second, it only takes one. It only takes one team in the top five to fall in love with him so don't discount the idea of him still turning into a high pick. If his stock can fall between February and April without playing in any games, his stock can rise in the month of April.
