Janoris Jenkins will have to overcome perceived negative character issues to keep himself in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Jan 8, 2012 - There's no denying that Janoris Jenkins is a first round talent at the cornerback position, but character concerns could drop him down the board. Jenkins was pegged as a first rounder last year and elected to return for his senior season with the Florida Gators. Before the season began, he was charged with marijuana possession for the second time in six months and was dismissed by the Gators.
Jenkins enrolled at North Alabama, and how high he goes will likely depend on how well he performs both on the field and in interviews at the combine. Though his off-field concerns will negatively affect his status, SB Nation's NFL Draft blog Mocking The Draft likes his football skills.
• Is a great speed/athleticism player who can run with anyone on vertical routes and keep with quick receivers.
• Has loose hips that he can flip open smoothly without losing a step.
• Shows good instincts to read the play and understand where the ball is going to go.
• Very good hands for a cornerback. In three years, has had eight interceptions.
Mocking The Draft currently has Jenkins as their 25th ranked prospect. The coming months could see his draft stock fluctuate up or down considerably.
