Jerious Norwood is expected to sign with the St. Louis Rams, giving the team an explosive alternative to Steven Jackson.
Former Falcon and current NFL free agent Jerious Norwood is expected to sign with the St. Louis Rams. The move would provide a change of pace for Steven Jackson, who was second in the league with 330 carries last season.
Norwood visited with the Rams on Tuesday, and it was announced by the Rams that a free agent signing or two would be announced within the day, rightly prompting rumors that Norwood was headed to St. Louis. NFL reporter Adam Caplan confirmed the rumors, announcing on Twitter that he expected Norwood to announce to join the Rams.
Jason Snelling, Jerome Harrison, Chauncey Washington and Ronnie Brown have all been tied to the Rams in some fashion. The team seems to realize that Jackson, who averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry in 2010, is slowing down after years of being an absolute workhorse in St. Louis.
Norwood tore his ACL in the 2010 season opener against Pittsburgh, missing the rest of the season as a result. How he bounces back remains to be seen, but when healthy he provided an explosive spark from the bench behind Michael Turner in Atlanta and should do the same for St. Louis.
