On Dec 16 2006, Stanford hired a new football coach, Jim Harbaugh...
One year later, on Dec 18 2007, The University of Michigan hires RIch Rodriguez to replace Llyod Carr.
What could have been for the Michigan football program, and Ryan Mallett, if UM would have asked Jim Harbugh, it's former star QB to come back to be its coach...
The first time I saw Ryan Mallett play at Michigan as a true freshman, I said to myself "he is going to be the first pick in the draft one day." He had the prototype size and strong arm that the NFL falls in love with.
We all know what happened, Rich Rod brought in a spread offense (that didn't work) several players, including Mallett left the program.
After sitting out a year, Mallett, now at Arkansas, has been a college star again. He however missed out on the opportunity to be coached by a former NFL QB who has also become a star again. He coached Stanford to its best record ever, and its QB, Andrew Luck is considered by many to be the top QB prospect to come out in more than 10 years. Harbaugh has to be given alot of credit for Luck's success.
Had Harbaugh, instead of Rodriguez been hired to coach Michigan back in 2007, perhaps they would be playing for a national championship next monday, and perhaps Mallett would be the undisputed top QB in the land.
