NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series heads south for the inaugural Kentucky 225 this Saturday at Kentucky Speedway. For the first time, the series returns to Sparta for a second race this season. In July, Kyle Busch piloted the No. 18 Toyota Tundra from the back of the field to Victory Lane. Luckily for the truck drivers, Busch will be competing in Dover this weekend.
Victory at Kentucky Speedway may carry extra importance for the Truck Series regulars. Since 2000, six out of 11 winners here have gone on to claim the Championship, most recently including Johnny Benson (2008), Ron Hornaday Jr. (2009), and Todd Bodine (2010).
The Kentucky 225 marks the second-to-last standalone event for the Truck Series. Because the Sprint Cup Series is competing over 11 hours away in Delaware, this race will be sans Cup regulars. The No. 18 will be driven by Brian Ickler while Ron Hornaday Jr. will shift into the No. 2 to provide the best chance for Kevin Harvick Incorporated to maintain its 33-point lead over Kyle Busch Motorsports. Cale Gale will pilot the No. 33.
The driver points championship is heating up as well. Austin Dillon currently leads the series with only a 2-point advantage over Johnny Sauter. Dillon will have to contend with another points leader this weekend, as his brother and ARCA Racing points leader Ty Dillon is making his NCWTS debut in the No. 21 KHI Chevy.
19-year-old Ty Dillon is hoping his dominance in the ARCA Racing Series will translate into NASCAR’s national touring series victory. Other notable brother duos that have visited NCWTS Victory Lane include Jay and Johnny Sauter, Kurt and Kyle Busch, and Terry and Bobby Labonte.
Austin Dillon is currently your NCWTS points leader. Johnny Sauter, James Buescher, Timothy Peters, and Ron Hornaday Jr. round out your top-five.
Live coverage of the Kentucky 225 will begin at 7:30PM ET on SPEED Channel and MRN Radio.
NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series has a week off before heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway October 15th for the Smith's 350. Austin Dillon is the defending race winner.
