Alright my first ever mock draft here. I was planning on doing a full Mock draft for all the teams however I felt that a lot of you guys on here mock the wrong guys to the Lions and want to help you guys understand a little better what our needs are.
First I am fully assuming that the Lions make the playoffs and lose in the NFC Champsionship game to the Packers(Who go on to beat the Patriots in the Superbowl). This gives us pick number 28 in this mock. Due to us making the playoffs we will also have to forfit a 6th round draft pick for tampering with the Cheifs.
Alright here it goes.
1st Round, Pick # 28 - Micheal Brewster(C)- Just like Prince Amukamara was the dream pick for the Lions last year, Micheal Brewster is becoming a very popular player to mock to the Lions and there is a reason for it. Dominic Raiola is 33 years old and was never that good in the first place. Brewster gives us an option moving forward and can hopefully help our run game as it has struggled immensely on up the middle plays. Brewster combined with the return of Mikel LeShoure should help our run game and put less pressure on Matthew Stafford.
2nd Round, Pick # 60 - Kevin Zietler(G) - Despite needing a tackle moving forward we also need a guard to replace the god awful Stefen Peterman. Peterman has injury problems and isn't that good and draws the most bonehead penelties. While I was itching to mock a tackle hear I will keep Backus on for another year and focus on our inside lineman instead. This should also help the run game a lot.
3rd Round, Pick # 91- Donnie Fletcher(CB) - Finally I mock a CB to the Lions. Despite most people thinking that our secondary really stinks it isn't that bad, in fact I think we have a pretty good secondary. For this reason I feel a CB in the Top 2 rounds won't fit too well. Eric Wright will be an FA next year however I fully expect him to be resigned. Fletcher will start off as the #4 CB but will work his way up the depth chart.
4th Round, Pick # 123 - Derek Moye(WR) - Nate Burleson won't play forever and considering how good Stafford is you can never have too many good WR's. Moye is 6'5'' and would give the Lions another red zone target. He isn't the athletic freak that Johnson is but can still go and grab balls that most corners can't. Moye would be #4 on our depth chart however, he would make an impact.
5th Round, Pick #155 - Cam Johnson(DE) - Kyle Vanden Bosch is aging and considering how the Lions rotate their DLineman this guy would get plenty of playing time. In last years draft the Lions were heavily considering DaQuan Bowers with pick #13 and while it take them to the 5th round for a DE to be pick they will still get one. With Johnson coming in either Sammie Hill will be traded or Andre Fluellen will be cut.
7th Round, Pick # 218 - Chris Rainy(RB)- The Lions need a guy who can fill Jahvid Best spot when he is injured and Maurice Morris/Kieland Williams isn't the answer. In the 7th round all you can do is hope that a player turns out to be good so taking a shot at a RB isn't too bad here.
So there it is guys, obviously as the season goes on we will get to see the prospects perform more and we can more accuratly make a mock when it's closer to April.
