Ducks Vs. Capitals: Caps' Comeback Comes Complete In 5-4 Overtime Win

Since the "Rock The Red" era of the Washington Capitals began in 2007, the team has made its name on exciting late-game heroics and improbable comebacks. Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks was no exception as the Caps rallied from a 3-0 second period deficit to force overtime, where they ultimately won the game.

It started with Joel Ward's sharp-angle shot that beat Jonas Hiller five-hole. It was a soft goal, but a goal nonetheless for a Caps team in desperate need down 3-0.

About three minutes later, Dennis Wideman's blast from the point brought life back to the Caps and their fans at Verizon Center.

Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good. Troy Brouwer's goal was more of the former, but after Corey Perry scored to give the Ducks a 4-2 lead, he'll take it.

Nicklas Backstrom tied the game with under a minute left, almost guaranteeing overtime and one point after being down by three goals.

Of course, it's only fitting that Backstrom won the game for Washington in overtime. After two rough outings last week, the Caps bounced back in a big way. What looked like an inevitable three-game losing streak became a temporary aberration, which means bad news for the rest of the NHL.
