I'm not sure I've ever seen a golf cart without a driver go racing towards a group of people as if the gas pedal was stuck down. I've seen Marshawn Lynch doing donuts in a medical cart, but haven't seen an unmanned vehicle take out a group of people like they were bowling pins. But that's just what happened at Cowboys Stadium on Saturday as a flatbed golf cart came out of nowhere and plowed into a group of people, leaving chaos in its wake.
The golf cart incident was all captured on video as cameras were rolling for the Texas 5A State Championship, and it's some of the weirdest footage you'll see.
There's a bunch of things going on here, so let's run them down.
First, the impact itself. This part seems kind of terrible for those involved, but look closely at the man in the blue shirt. He lands in the passenger seat, then, in the blink of an eye, is driving the golf cart. A few seconds later, the man dives out of the cart while executing the worst tuck and roll imaginable. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the guy rolled out of the cart.
The hero of the day is the man who chased the cart down and eventually got it under control. But still, how did this even happen? How did the car suddenly come out of nowhere to take out what seems to be the only group of people standing in close vicinity to each other on the field?
For clarity, here's a wide shot, which shows the cart racing from the corner of the end zone as a person gives chase. It's amazing the cart honed in on the group of people like it did.
Hopefully the injuries weren't serious and everyone makes a full recovery.
Update: One man was taken to a hospital with a leg injury, but everyone else escaped serious injury.
