Rockies Acquire Kevin Slowey From Twins

According to a report from MLB.com's Thomas Harding, Kevin Slowey is now a member of the Colorado Rockies:

The Rockies have agreed to acquire right-handed pitcher Kevin Slowey from the Twins for a player to be named. The deal will be announced officially sometime Tuesday morning.

In the past, Coors Field has been where pitching careers went to die. That's changed to some extent since they started putting baseballs in a humidor there, but Slowey will have quite a bit of work ahead of him before he is an effective pitcher again. He had one very good year in 2008, his first full major league season, but since then has battled injuries, endured a trip to the bullpen, and in 2011, a demotion to Triple-A. He pitched well enough there (3.55 ERA in seven starts), but after his recall in August he started eight games, posted a 7.25 ERA and 1.41 WHIP, and the Twins lost all eight games.

One thing Slowey still has working for him is control. In 44⅔ innings after his recall, he walked just four hitters (out of 196 faced). If he can keep that up, and keep the ball down, he might have success pitching in Denver. At 27, he still has time to resurrect his career.
