Post Lockout Mock Draft 1.0 - Oh and Happy St. Patty's Day

  1. Carolina Panthers - Blaine Gabbert (QB) - Missouri
Gabbert had a great pro-day.  Gabbert is the type of QB that can be the face of a franchise.  His NFL draft coach is very high on him.  Scouts and teams are very high on him.  Not to mention the God of football - Adam Schefter believes he will be the first player taken in the NFL Draft.  The Panthers pull the trigger on the new face of their franchise

  2. Denver Broncos - Marcell Dareus (DT) - Alabama
Dareus is the best defensive lineman in the draft - in my opinion.  John Fox believes in stopping the run, and running the rock.  Dareus is a perfect fit for the type of defense that the Broncos will run.  He plays with power - similar to how Suh plays with power.  Perfect fit.

  3. Buffalo Bills - Patrick Peterson (CB) - LSU
The Bills have indicated that they will take the best player on the board.  Last year they took CJ Spiller who was arguably the best player on the board when they were drafting.  They have other needs - and the secondary is one of them.  Leodis has not been a great CB, McGee is always injured, and Florence is set to be a free agent.  We have seen what Revis can do for a team.  Welcome to Peterson on island......

  4. Cincinnati Bengals - Cam Newton (QB) - Auburn
The Bengals will trade Carson Palmer - and that leaves a glaring need at the QB position.  Newton will go to the AFC North where a QB that he is often compared to plays - Big Ben.  I don't know how Newton will be as a pro, but there is no doubt that the talent is absolutely incredible.  He is a physical beast, he's a hard worker, and most of all he is a winner.

  5. Arizona Cardinals - Von Miller (OLB) - Texas A&M
Miller might have had the most impressive off season out of any player in this draft.  He was amazing in the senior ball, amazing in senior ball practices, amazing at the combine, and amazing at his pro-day.  His tape is spectacular.  He is arguably the best pass rusher in this draft.  Cardinals have been searching for that rush LB to cement their defense around.

  6. Cleveland Browns - AJ Green (WR) - Georgia
I was stick between Bowers and Green.  But i believe that AJ Green is a can't miss prospect.  I know the move to the 4-3 defense requires a rush linebacker - but I think one can be found in the second round.  Green will add a completely new dimension to this young Browns team and give McCoy a primary target

  7. San Francisco 49ers - Robert Quinn (DE/OLB) - UNC
Haurbaugh starts his reign but selecting an elite pass rusher for the rush LB spot in his 3-4 defense.  There are so many possibilities at this pick - but I think Quinn is a perfect fit and will instantly impact the 49ers defense.

  8. Tennessee Titans - Nick Fairley (DT) - Auburn
The Titans will jump with joy when Fairley falls into their laps.  The Titans defense has not been the same since the departure of Albert Hansworth - and Fairley will bring back that dimension.  Fairley will be a great way for the new HC to start his reign in Tennessee.  A QB can be found in later rounds or free agency.

  9. Dallas Cowboys - Prince Amukamara (CB) - Nebraska
The Cowboys have glaring needs in their secondary.  Amukamara has the potential to be a Pro-bowl type CB.  If Peterson was not in this draft - he would be going in the top five.

  10. Washington Redskins - Jake Locker (QB) - Washington
I am going to borrow Brian's explanation for this pick because it is the exact same reasoning I put Locker here.  To quote "Once upon a time, Mike Shanahan took a quarterback from a bad program that struggled to complete 60% of his passes No. 11 overall. Jake Locker has better upside and better intangibles than did Jay Cutler, and fits Shanahan's offense well." - Brian Galliford

  11. Houston Texans - Aldon Smith (OLB/DE) - Missouri
Wade Phillips gets his next version of Demarcus Ware to play the rush LB spot for his newly implemented 3-4 defense in Houston.  Great fit.  Great pick.  Great player.

  12. Minnesota Vikings - Da'Quan Bowers (DE) - Clemson
Bowers falls to the Vikings laps and paired up with Jared Allen give the Vikings a nasty 1-2 punch.

  13. Detroit Lions - Tyron Smith (OT) - USC
The Lions have to protect their franchise QB's blindside and find an elite LT to ground their offensive line with

  14. St. Louis Rams - Julie Jones (WR) - Alabama
This is a dream situation for the Rams.  They get a #1 receiver to give Bradford a primary weapon.

  15. Miami Dolphins - Mark Ingram (RB) - Alabama
I don't think I need to explain this pick.

  16. Jacksonville Jaguars - Cameron Jordan (DE) - Cal
A DE to continue to build a solid defensive line and add a pass rusher.

  17. New England Patriots - JJ Watt (DE/DT) - Wisconsin
Watt is a perfect fit for the Patriots.  The only issue I have is that I heard his agent is someone the New England Patriots don't deal with.  None the less Watt will be perfect for this young and talented defense.  Mike Mayock loves Watt.

  18. San Diego Chargers - Muhammed Wilkerson (DE/DT) - Temple
Wilkerson is on the rise and is a fantastic 5 tech.

  19. New York Giants - Mike Pouncey (G/C) - Florida
Coach Coughlin has indicated interior lineman is a position on the radar.  Luckily Pouncey - twin to Maurkice is in the draft.  He is not as talented - but he is a polished technician with excellent worth ethic and personality.  Will make an instant impact for the Giants who need to improve and bring youth to their offensive line.

  20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Adrian Clayborn (DE) - Iowa
Tampa Bay adds a DE to bring an elite pass rusher to their young and very talented defensive line.

  21. Kansas City Chiefs - Phil Taylor (NT) - Baylor
The Chiefs have been searching for a pure NT to anchor their 3-4 defense.  Taylor is a 3 down NT - and has surprising quickness and talent for a player his size.  Perfect match for the Chiefs.

  22. Indianapolis Colts - Anthony Castonzo (OT) - BC
What a perfect position for the Colts to be in.  Castanzo is the most polished OT in the draft - and excels in pass protection which is exactly what Manning needs.

  23. Philadelphia Eagles - Gabe Carimi (OT) - Wisconsin
Carimi is a PERECT right tackle - which works out for the Eagles because that is Vick's blind side.  Protecting Vick should be priority number one.  They can snag a cornerback in the second round.  Carimi is a starter from day one and instantly improves the Eagles offensive line.  I love this pick.

  24. New Orleans Saints - Corey Liuget (DT) - Illinois
Liuget would be a perfect fit in the Saints defense.  He is a stout run stopper and a pass rusher.  He will make an instant impact for the Saints and improve that run game.

  25. Seattle Seahawks - Ryan Mallet (QB) - Arkansas
I can see Seattle trading for Carson Palmer.  But for now I have them going Ryan Mallet.  I think this is a perfect spot for him to get drafted.  He is an extremely gifted passer and could be the answer at the QB position for Pete Carrol.

  26. Baltimore Ravens - Jimmy Smith (CB) - Colorado
Ravens had situations during the season where the secondary got burned.  So they need to make an upgrade at the CB position.  Smith has the potential to be elite - and his character concerns will be straightened out by the leaders in the locker room.

  27. Atlanta Falcons - Justin Houston (DE) - Georgia
The Falcons need to add a pass rusher across Abraham - and perhaps eventually even replace him.  Houston is a good prospect and added weight and strength to his frame.

  28. New England Patriots - Nate Solder (OT) - Colorodo
One of the top priorities is to protect Tom Brady and his awesome Pony Tail.  Matt Light is set to become a free agent and Solder is rated high.

  29. Chicago Bears - Darrek Shererod (OT) - Miss St.
Priority #1 - protect Jay Cutler.

  30. New York Jets - Ryan Kerrigan (DE/OLB) - Purdue
The Jets need to add pass rushers to their linebackers.  Jason Taylor is getting old, and they don't have too much depth at the position.

  31. Pittsburgh Steelers - Brandon Harris (CB) - Miami
The Superbowl showed that the Steelers need to improve their secondary.  Harris is a good cover corner and should help improve the Steeler's secondary.

  32. Green Bay Packers - Cameron Heyward (DT/DE) - Ohio St.
Cullen Jenkins is set to become a free agent.  A replacement like Heyward would be awesome.  Just watch his sugarbowl tape and drool.  Would be a great fit for Capers defense.
