Vince Grella Achilles Surgery Rules Midfielder Out For Season

Australia and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Vince Grella will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing a major operation on his Achilles tendon. Grella, who has featured extensively for the Socceroos over the course of his career, had only managed five appearances with Blackburn this season thanks to a raft of minor injuries, and now faced even more time on the sidelines as 13th place Rovers face a tough fight to avoid relegation - they're barely clear of 18th place Wolverhampton and need to rack up points to ensure their safety.

Blackburn manager Steve Keen discussed the absence of the versatile yet injury-prone Grella:

It's been hard for Vinny because he's picked up niggly injuries and this has been quite a big operation on his Achilles.

Grella's never really made much of an impact in the Premier League despite four strong years in the Serie A, making 119 league appearances over four years split between Parma and Torino. After joining Blackburn in 2008 for £4.2M in 2008, Grella has turned in an average of less than fifteen starts per season.
