Baylor's Phil Taylor asserting himself as first-round pick

Stay connected with SB Nation

Gil Brandt of NFL.com writes that Phil Taylor and Danny Watkins of Baylor maintained their positive Combine momentum at Baylor's pro day on Thursday.

Personnel members from 23 teams were at the Baylor pro day, but Taylor and Watkins stood by their Combine workout numbers. The continued momentum, Brandt says, is from both looking good in positional drills.

Brandt asserts that Taylor has "solidified him as a first-round pick." I'm beginning to agree.

While Taylor won't be a high first round pick, he certainly could work his way into the back side of round one. Teams like the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots should all have interest in Taylor.

As a senior, Taylor had 62 tackles and seven tackles for loss, numbers that are fairly startling for a defensive tackle not named Suh.

Although Taylor has had stamina and conditioning issues in the past, 334-pound defensive tackles with his talent are rare. Because of that, he could be a top 32 selection.
