Phil Jackson and the Los Angeles Lakers have each been fined $75,000 by the NBA for the coach's comment that the possibility of a lockout next year helped encourage him to retire as soon as this season is over. The fine was reported for several hours before being announced Thursday.
The comments that got Jackson and the team into trouble:
It was really about the fact that there's going to be a lockout. It's the perfect time to help the organization cover a gap if there's a lockout ... How long is it going to last? I think there are some people who are pretty convinced there's not going to be a year next year.
Heavy stuff, coach! Jackson becomes the second Lakers individual to be heavily fined in as many days, as Kobe Bryant was hit for $100,000 Wednesday.
