The San Diego Chargers used the 18th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to select Illinois defensive tackle Corey Liuget.
This pick is a surprise in the sense that Liuget will likely be playing defensive end in San Diego's 3-4 scheme. San Diego hasn't replaced end Igor Olshansky, so it makes sense that they would go with a defensive lineman. But with Cal's Cameron Jordan still on the board, it's hard to think highly of this pick.
Much like the selection of Larry English in 2009, this is a risky pick for the Charges. If Liuget doesn't pan out for the Chargers, general manager A.J. Smith could be on the hot seat.
