There were no major surprises on Thursday as the NBA released the official early entry list for underclassman and international players in advance of the 2011 NBA Draft. Kyrie Irving of Duke and Derrick Williams of Arizona lead the way among NCAA underclassmen. Bismack Biyombo, Jonas Valanciunas and Jan Vesely are among the most highly-touted international players.
NCAA underclassmen have until May 8 to pull out of the draft and maintain college eligibility (provided they have not already hired an agent), significantly decreasing the opportunity for bubble first-round picks to "test the waters" in workouts with multiple teams. But DraftExpress has reported a major multi-team workout for the weekend of April 30 that will allow the players to be seen by plenty of scouts in a short period of time.
International players will have the opportunity to hang in the draft until June 13, and also do not have restrictions on agents. That gives international players an advantage and more time to convince NBA personnel officials that they deserve to be chosen.
The NBA Draft order will be set May 17 with the draft lottery. The draft is scheduled for June 23.
