Pablo Sandoval Injury: Possible Broken Hand Puts Panda On Disabled List

The weak offense of the San Francisco Giants might get a whole lot weaker. Third baseman Pablo Sandoval, one of the only Giants who was hitting at all, had to leave pregame practice on Saturday to see the trainer. From Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News:

Bochy told Jon Miller Pablo has a hamate bone injury in his hand. This often requires surgery.

There's no word how this injury was sustained, but it's not a quick fix. From Henry Schulman of the Chronicle:

Usual course for hamate is surgical removal. But I stress, I have not talked to anyone w/ official medical knowledge

To take Sandoval's place on the roster, shortstop and third baseman Ryan Rohlinger is being called up from AAA Fresno.

Sandoval was hitting .313/.374/.530 entering today's game against the Washington Nationals. The injury is about as devastating as it gets for the Giants' offense, which hasn't hit a home run since last Sunday. Today, shortstop Miguel Tejada is shifting to third base, with Mike Fontenot playing shortstop.
