With last season's breakout performance, Delmon Young looked to be fulfilling the promise he always had as a top prospect. But the 25-year-old has had a tough start to the season, first battling the flu, and then injuring his ribs badly enough to go on the disabled list on April 27. There is a light at the end of the tunnel that leads from the trainer's room, though. From the Star-Tribune:
The Twins need to make room on the roster for Delmon Young to come off the DL on Friday ...... Young is scheduled to play six innings in left field in an extended spring training game today.
Assuming that the extended spring game goes well, Young will rejoin the team on Friday, and the Twins are hoping that the time he spent away from the lineup was enough for him to shed the wood-eating fungus that's been chipping away at nearly every bat in the Twins' dugout. Ben Revere and Rene Tosoni have split duties in left since Young's injury, with both hitting under .200.
