Kentucky Derby runner-up Nehro is still a "maybe" to join the 2011 Preakness field as of Sunday, owner Ahmad Zayat again asserted. He says the final decision will come Monday after a morning breeze to assess his temperment. Nehro has put in three races in six weeks, all of them highly competitive and resulting in second-place finishes. One more would be a lot to ask of any contender, but Zayat thinks it's worth considering:
However, he is doing very well. His coat, his energy level, his demeanor have all been excellent since the Derby. After he breezes Monday, I will sit down with (trainer) Steve Asmussen and make a decision as to where we go.
If Nehro does race, he'll be among the favorites. The latest odds have him as a 5/1 pick, second to only Animal Kingdom/s 5/2.
