Belmont Basketball To Ohio Valley Conference, Ending Atlantic Sun Reign

The Belmont Bruins are headed to the Ohio Valley Conference, where they'll become the conference's 12th member institution. After making the move to Division I in 1999, they began play in the Atlantic Sun two years later, quickly taking the conference over.

Belmont has won four A-Sun titles in the past six years, rolling to a 30-4 regular season record in 2010-11 while suffering just one in-conference loss. Coach Rick Byrd has developed his brisk, highly disciplined attack into something that's a treat to watch, unless if he's busy putting a scare into your power-conference team.

Commenting on the move, school president Dr. Robert C. Fisher said:

The Ohio Valley Conference is one of the most tradition-rich and respected athletic conferences in NCAA Division I. We were honored by the invitation to join such a great family of fine universities, and look forward to establishing new traditions and new friendships.
