A rash of transfers broke out across the college basketball nation Monday night, with the Virginia Tech Hokies losing forward Manny Atkins, as coach Seth Greenberg announced. Atkins is concerned about playing time, according to his coach, after playing a little over 13 minutes in his second season and just under nine in his first.
The versatile six-foot-seven rising junior averaged 4.9 points and a pair of rebounds for the 2010-11 Hokies, seeing his time on the floor surging as high as 31 minutes per game during the ACC Tournament and NIT Tournament, including a 14-point, three-rebound effort against the Florida St. Seminoles to reach the conference title game.
Of course, all that playing time was partially the product of Virginia Tech's injury struggles, but it sounds like Atkins wants to be an everyday starter instead of a player who has to carve out a role where he can.
