With Wednesday's post position draw looming for the 2011 Preakness Stakes, the time is now for owners and trainers to make the final call on whether or not to enter their horses. Concealed Identity, who opens at 30-1, is the only horse in the preliminary field who has raced exclusively in Maryland. Concealed Identity is the offspring of 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Smarty Jones, and according to his owners, the Preakness undercard is still a possibility.
The Preakness undercard, the James W. Murphy Stakes, has a purse of $100,000 and would be a much more winnable race for a horse whose owners have expressed concerns about throwing him into the fire that is a Triple Crown race. Concealed Identity could show up in either the Preakness Stakes or the James W. Murphy Stakes, and we'll learn his fate on Wednesday. One way or another, even if it isn't in the big show, Concealed Identity should be racing at Plimlico this weekend.
The 2011 Preakness Stakes gets underway on May 21 at Pimlico. Stay with our Preakness Stakes StoryStream for more on the race.
