The 2011 Preakness Stakes post position draw, announced by Pimlico Race Course officials Wednesday afternoon, was kind to Sway Away, Dance City, Midnight Interlude and Mucho Macho Man, while contenders like Animal Kingdom and Astrology must be disappointed. Well, they would be, if they were humans and knew how to count. Though surely they can sense the disappointment of their trainers, jockeys and owners. Moving on.
Why does this matter? Horses on the outside of the pack have tougher chances of victory on most tracks than those with interior starting points. The draw will certainly affect each contender's odds; you can check the latest Preakness odds here, but be advised those are going to change shortly. More post position draw theory here.
