Donnie Murphy Injury Sends Marlins Infielder To Disabled List

Florida Marlins infielder Donnie Murphy is heading to the disabled list with inflammation in his right wrist. From Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman:

Marlins Donnie murphy (wrist) going on disabled list today. Edwin has been successfully employing dobbs (.372)/helms at 3b

Murphy was the Opening Day starter at third for the Florida Marlins, as the favorite to win the job, Matt Dominguez was hit by a pitch that fractured his elbow. But apparently the third base spot in Miami is like the drummer's chair for Spinal Tap, as Murphy was also hit by a pitch on April 8 that he just couldn't recover from. After the hit-by-pitch, Murphy was hitless in 19 at-bats, and the Marlins finally made the move to let his wrist heal up.

To fill Murphy's roster spot, the Marlins have recalled outfielder Bryan Petersen from Triple-A New Orleans. Petersen was hot in the minors, with a .342/.455/.562 batting line over his first 88 plate appearances.

As Heyman notes above, the Marlins are likely to use Greg Dobbs and Wes Helms at third base for the time being.
