Shackleford's Preakness victory follows a fourth-place performance in the 2011 Kentucky Derby. Animal Kingdom becomes just the latest horse to win the Kentucky Derby and fail to complete the Triple Crown, last accomplished by Affirmed in 1979.

Dialed In, which could have secured a $5.5 million payday with a Preakness victory, finished fourth after a late charge from last place.
