Friday night, White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham had to leave a game after a thrown ball from the outfield took a funny bounce and hit him in the face. Replays made it appear as though the ball hit Beckham in the eye, and as he walked off the field in pain, it was easy to assume that he'd been pretty badly hurt, and that he'd have to go on the disabled list.
Well boy have I got good news for you. First, via Daryl Van Schouwen:
Beckham: CT scan and x-rays last night local hospital. No fractures.
And next, via Mark Gonzales:
Becks hopes to play Monday but swelling has to subside
Beckham's eye is also functioning normally, meaning the only injury he sustained here is some swelling. Sufficient swelling to keep him out for a few days, but nothing major, and certainly nothing as major as was feared at the time. A bit of good luck to follow a bit of bad luck.
