Report: Pistons To Fire Head Coach John Kuester

John Kuester's tenure as the Detroit Pistons' head coach has lasted for two years, and his below-average performance apparently has the Pistons on the verge of firing him. ESPN's Rich Bucher cites sources saying that the Pistons and Kuester are close to parting ways.

Kuester was named the Pistons head coach in 2009 after Avery Johnson turned down the opportunity, and signed a three-year, $6 million deal. He has compiled a 57-107 record over two seasons with the Pistons, and the Pistons were above .500 for just three days of his tenure.

Kuester repeatedly clashed with Pistons players, and reports of a player-led protest surfaced in the 2010-11 season.

Bucher additionally reports that Detroit's basketball operations power structure, led by general manager Joe Dumars, will remain in place. Dumars is one of the NBA's longest-tenured decision-makers, and assembled the core of the Pistons team that won the 2004 NBA title.
