The 2011 Women's World Cup starts on June 26th in Germany, but preparation has been underway for the USWNT for quite some time. The potential United States players have been going back and forth between their club teams in WPS and a USA training camp in Florida, as coach Pia Sundhage tries to galvanize a team of players who don't play together every week. After some time in camp and a flurry of games over the last year, Sundhage has finally settled on her roster. These are the 21 women who will be representing the United States at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Goalkeepers (3): Hope Solo, Nicole Barnhart, Jill Loyden
Defenders (7): Christie Rampone, Amy LePeilbet, Ali Krieger, Stephanie Cox, Rachel Buehler, Becky Sauerbrunn, Heather Mitts
Midfielders (7): Shannon Boxx, Megan Rapinoe, Carli Lloyd, Heather O'Reilly, Tobin Heath, Lindsay Tarpley, Lori Lindsey
Forwards (4): Abby Wambach, Amy Rodriguez, Lauren Cheney, Alex Morgan
The roster is pretty light on surprises, with the biggest one coming at goalkeeper. Ashlyn Harris was expected to make the roster, but Jill Loyden has beaten her out. Some other notable omissions include Yael Averbuch, Meghan Klingenberg, and Kelley O'Hara.
