Friday night, Yankees rookie Kevin Whelan -- granted, he's 27 years old -- made his major-league debut and didn't exactly drape himself in pinstriped glory. As Steve Lombardi notes, Whelan became just the 12th pitcher since 1919 to issue four (or five) walks while recording two or fewer outs in his first outing.↵
Whelan's got nothing on Miguel Asencio, though. I'll never forget watching Asencio face four batters, and walk all four on four pitches apiece. Asencio never did harness his control, but he did win seven games in the majors. Which is seven more than I'm going to win.
