Aaron Harang Injury: Padres Starter On DL, Anthony Bass Coming Up

When the San Diego Padres signed Aaron Harang as a free agent, he was considered a pretty strong sleeper, given his background and his new pitching environment. And sure enough, through his first 13 starts, Harang posted a passable 3.71 ERA, providing for the Padres a bit of stability. But it hasn't all been rosy - in his most recent couple starts, Harang has pitched through pain in his foot, and now that pain has forced him to the disabled list.

Anthony Bass will make his Major League debut for the #Padres on Monday in Colorado. Harang goes on DL

Harang doesn't know how he hurt his foot. X-rays haven't revealed any damage. In those two starts, he's allowed four runs in 12-2/3 innings. The whole thing is kind of a mystery, but if Harang hurts, he hurts, and the Padres are hoping that whatever is wrong gets better after two weeks of rest.

Taking Harang's roster spot is Anthony Bass. A former fifth-round pick, Bass is a 23-year-old righty who has pitched with double-A San Antonio and triple-A Tucson, with a combined 3.41 ERA and 8.3 K/9. He'll start for the Padres on Monday.
