College World Series 2011 Bracket Update: Texas Eliminated; Florida, Vanderbilt Postponed

The Texas Longhorns were bounced from the College World Series on Monday afternoon after North Carolina staved off elimination and avoided going 0-2 in Omaha. The Longhorns trip was short and doomed by losses to the Tar Heels and Florida Gators in consecutive games, ending any hopes of an NCAA Championship. While North Carolina moves on, it still must wait to learn its next opponent after severe weather hit TD Ameritrade Park on Monday evening.

The Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores were on the field when tornado sirens began sounding and dark clouds descended on the area. High wind and heavy rain sent fans rushing toward the concourse as play was suspended in what was initially a simple rain delay. The weather persisted, forcing Florida and Vanderbilt to come back in the morning to finish the game. At the time, Florida held a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

The Gators and Commodores will get back at it on Tuesday morning at 11:06 a.m. The winner will take a firm hold on the top-half of the College World Series bracket while the loser will drop down to face North Carolina in an elimination game on Wednesday.

The full, updated bracket can be found at the NCAA website.

Florida Vs. Vanderbilt Weather Delay: Game Postponed Until Tuesday After Massive Storm

The Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores will have to wait until Tuesday morning to conclude their College World Series after a vicious storm ripped through the Omaha area. The storm, which boasted high winds and heavy rain, pelted the area, forcing players from the field in the bottom of the sixth. In fact, at one point players were still on the field as tornado sirens could be heard in the distance.

Florida and Vandy will hit the field again on Tuesday at 11 a.m. to conclude their winner's bracket game. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Gators currently hold a 3-1 lead. Vanderbilt will be up to bat when the game resumes.

The game will reportedly be shown on ESPN and streamed on ESPN3, as well.

Florida Vs. Vanderbilt Weather Delay: Holy Cats That Is A Large Storm

Uhh, we're not going to be seeing any baseball for a while. Thanks to our friends at the National Weather Service, we can see that the College World Series game between the Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores isn't going to be finished for another hour or two. I'm not from Nebraska, so this storm could be par for the course as far as summer thunderstorms go, but to me that looks like a pretty freaking nasty storm.

The game was delayed at the top of the 6th inning with Florida leading 3-1. The Gators had jumped out to a 3-0 lead off of an incredible home run by Preston Tucker into the wind, but Vandy pulled one back with a great piece of hitting by Anthony Gomez, who was able to gut out a single on a slider out of the strike zone to bring in Connor Harrell. Karsten Whitson was pulled afterwards (why?) and Steven Rodriguez got out of the inning.

Incredibly, despite the size of the storm and the obvious tornado sirens in the background, the teams played for a good ten minutes AFTER THE TORNADO SIRENS STARTED BLARING. Smart.

College World Series Score Update: Florida Baseball Leads Vanderbilt In Fourth

Karsten Whitson and Grayson Garvin appeared to be in the midst of a long pitcher's duel, but Florida Gators slugger Preston Tucker has changed that with a swing of the bat. After three innings of scoreless baseball, Garvin made a mistake and left a breaking ball hanging over the middle of the plate, finally giving a Gators player a great pitch to hit. No one could have predicted what Tucker was going to do with it, though, as he absolutely crushed the ball deep into the bleachers, hitting a three-run home run and putting the Gators up 3-0 on the Vanderbilt Commodores.

There is a strong wind blowing in from right field, which is exactly where Tucker hit the ball to, making his huge home run even more impressive. That one big swing might keep Florida up for a while, as Whitson is pitching a fantastic game so far. The Gators are going into the top of the fifth with their lead, and Whitson is working on a shutout.

College World Series Scores: UNC Baseball Eliminates Texas, 3-0

The Texas Longhorns have become the first team to be knocked out of the 2011 College World Series, with the North Carolina Tar Heels serving up a 3-0 victory in Monday's losers bracket battle. UNC will advance to Wednesday, when it will take on the loser of Monday night's game between the Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores.

Kent Emanual is the hero of the afternoon, hurling a complete game shutout to help keep the ACC in the hunt for its first CWS title since the dawn of time or so.

After the Heels took a two-run advantage in the third inning thanks to a hit by C Jacob Stallings, a RBI double in the ninth by Ben Bunting (he did not bunt!) added some style points to the proceedings.
