Futures Game Roster Announced

The 2011 Futures Game roster was released today, and some of the best prospects in the game are on the U.S. and World rosters, including Bryce Harper (Nationals), Kyle Gibson (Twins), Mike Trout (Angels), Wilin Rosario (Rockies), Martin Perez (Rangers), and Yonder Alonso (Reds). The game will be played two days before the All-Star Game, on July 10th, and it’s probably the best way to watch a bunch of prospects all at once. They should have six of these every year.

And because no one asked for it, here’s a list of the players who played in the first Futures Game in 1999:

Ryan Anderson - Mariners
Rick Ankiel - Cardinals
Tony Armas, Jr. - Expos
Peter Bergeron - Expos
Lance Berkman - Astros
Russell Branyan - Indians
Dee Brown - Royals
A.J. Burnett - Marlins
Pat Burrell - Phillies
Javier Cardona - Tigers
Jose Castillo - Pirates
Chin-Feng Chen - Dodgers
Giuseppe Chiaramonte - Giants
Francisco Cordero - Tigers
Michael Cuddyer - Twins
Kelly Dransfeldt - Rangers
Erubiel Durazo - Diamondbacks
Rafael Furcal - Braves
Alexis Gomez - Royals
Jason Grilli - Giants
Franklin Gutierrez - Dodgers
Nick Johnson - Yankees
Adam Kennedy - Cardinals
Sun-Woo Kim - Red Sox
Cesar King - Rangers
Pete LaForest - Expos
Joe Lawrence - Blue Jays
Chris Mears - Mariners
Mark Mulder - A’s
Aaron Myette - White Sox
Ramon Nivar - Rangers
Tomo Ohka - Red Sox
Ramon Ortiz - Angels
Pablo Ozuna - Marlins
Corey Patterson - Cubs
Brad Penny - Diamondbacks
Kyle Peterson - Brewers
Ben Petrick - Rockies
Calvin Pickering - Orioles
Luke Prokopec - Dodgers
Aramis Ramirez - Pirates
Rene Reyes - Rockies
Matt Riley - Orioles
Alex Rios - Blue Jays
J.C. Romero - Twins
B.J. Ryan - Orioles
Alex Sanchez - Rays
Wascar Serrano - Padres
Alfonso Soriano - Yankees
Evert-Jean 't Hoen - Angels
Jorge Toca - Mets
Goef Tomlinson - Royals
Kip Wells - White Sox
Vernon Wells - Blue Jays
Matt White - Rays

I’d wager that only Lance Berkman has a chance at the Hall of Fame, though it should be noted that Vernon Wells, Alfonso Soriano, A.J. Burnett, and Alex Rios have a chance at the Contract Hall of Fame, which is a nice little display in a berth on Scott Boras’s yacht.
