If Friday's practice at Rogers Arena is any indication, the Vancouver Canucks might get Manny Malhotra back in their lineup for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins on Saturday evening. He rejoined his teammates for practice on Friday after taking a few days off.
A week ago, he was cleared to take contact by doctors as he continues recovery from an eye injury. His return in the postseason was completely unexpected back in mid-March when he took a puck off the eye in a game against Colorado, but, well, it's the playoffs.
On the other side of the coin, defenseman Dan Hamhuis was not on the ice for the Canucks on Friday morning. Hamhuis was injured in a collision with Bruins forward Milan Lucic during the second period of Game 1. He didn't return to the game after that hit, and head coach Alain Vigneault wouldn't discuss the injury afterwards.
After practice Friday, Vigneault will surely call each player day-to-day before moving on to other questions. Again, it's the playoffs.
