Austin Johnson Arrested For Public Drunkenness, According To Report

Tennessee Volunteers LB Austin Johnson was reportedly arrested for some drunk and disorderly behavior Sunday morning, according to Austin Ward of the Knoxville News Sentinel. He was released on a $1,000 bail at 12:57 am and has an August 4 court date, also according to Ward.

Johnson is expected to compete for a starting spot in 2011 after having been named the team's most surprising spring practice performer. He played in 25 games over the past two seasons. In 2008 and 2009 he played fullback and special teams, once catching a 38-yard pass. He switched to linebacker before the 2010 season, piling up 44 total tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.

He's also earned SEC All-Academic honors three years running and has had a solid off-field rep.

Said a University of Tennessee spokesperson, "We're aware of an incident involving Austin. We're in the process of investigating."
