Now that the Alexis Sanchez deal with Barcelona has been finalized, Javier Pastore has stepped up to claim the headlines. The Palermo playmaker is almost certain to leave Italy before the season starts, but where will be go? One of the problems with deciphering potential Palermo transfers is a little entity known as Maurizio Zamparini, the rosanero president who, surprisingly, has yet to see the inside of a mental institution, despite coming up with some of the most insane statements ever uttered by a human.
Anyway. It's thought that Premier League side Chelsea have the strongest chance at landing Pastore, who Zamparini has declared is worth €50m. Manchester City were in the running, but they're set to splash their cash on striker Sergio Aguero instead. It seems Argentines are simply hot right now. Although Palermo supposedly set a deadline for Tuesday to have Pastore all straightened out, now Zamp claims that two more clubs have entered the fray: Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain and La Liga side Real Madrid.
No offense to PSG, but it seems quite unlikely that Pastore would want to move to a lesser-quality league, even if the wages are equal to or higher to what Chelsea can pay. Zamparini needs to start making up more believable rumors if he wants Chelsea to take rival bids seriously. The one where he talked about an Icelandic club offering millions for his star was definitely viable.
***Edit: With Jeremy Menez now signed at PSG, Pastore moving there actually looks more viable. Perhaps Zamp isn't as crazy as we've all come to believe?***
