Ron Edwards Leaves Chiefs For Panthers, According To Report

The Kansas City Chiefs now have a hole at nose tackle. According to the Kansas City Star, DT Ron Edwards is leaving Kansas City to sign a three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. Like the other free agent deals this week, it won't become official until Friday night at 6:00 p.m. (ET).

Edwards reportedly received a three-year deal worth over $8 million so the Chiefs may have been interested in keeping him, but not at that price.

Edwards played nose tackle in the Chiefs 3-4 defense but he's really better suited for a 4-3 defense, which the Panthers play. He should step in and see immediate playing time.

This leaves a hole at nose tackle for the Chiefs with just rookie NT Jerrell Powe in the fold. They could bring back Shaun Smith to play defensive tackle or sign another one in free agency, like 49ers NT Aubrayo Franklin.
