The Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos have combined on the first trade of the 2011 NFL offseason, sending wide receiver Jabar Gaffney to Denver for defensive end/outside linebacker Jeremy Jarmon. Gaffney is the third wide receiver Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has signed in the past 24 hours, after the team re-signed Santana Moss and signed Donte' Stallworth.
Jarmon had fallen out of favor with the Redskins after they moved to a 3-4 defense and he was forced into more of an outside linebacker role. After appearing in 11 games as a rookie, he made just five appearances last season, and didn't make a start. He has only made 11 tackles in his career.
The Redskins will be Gaffney's fourth team as he gets ready to enter his 10th season. He is coming off a career year in which he appeared in all 16 games, made 11 starts and caught 65 passes for 875 yards. All those were career-highs.
