Mathias Kiwanuka Staying With New York Giants

Stay connected with SB Nation

The New York Giants are getting one of their many defensive stalwarts back, according to another one of their defensive stalwarts: Justin Tuck has tweeted that Mathias Kiwanuka will re-sign with the Giants for the 2011 season, and ESPN New York's Ohm Youngmisuk has confirmed Tuck's "report."

Terms of the deal have not been released. Kiwanuka was coveted as a potential infusion of pass-rushing ability for any number of teams, including the New England Patriots.

Kiwanuka has been on the rise, going from a reserve in his first two years in the NFL to a starter in 2008 and 2009. And he got his 2010 off to an even better start, recording four sacks in three games — Kiwanuka had 19.5 sacks in 58 NFL games prior to 2010 — before suffering a herniated disc that eventually led to him being placed on injured reserve.
