Fausto Carmona is a starting pitcher for the Cleveland Indians so it is probably a bit unnerving that the 27-year-old picked up his latest injury rounding the bases on Saturday during his team's game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Carmona's most recent setback, this one landing him on the 15-day Disabled List, is being officially reported as a strained right quadriceps.
The injury happened when Carmona tripped after laying down a bunt.while nearing first base, flying over his intended destination and landing on his chest.
"It's bad," Carmona told the Associated Press on Sunday morning. "It's very, very disappointing for me."
Carmona was the Indians only All-Star last season, but considering he's currently 4-10 in his 18 starts with a 5.48 ERA so far this season, he probably needn't be concerned about missing this year's Midsummer Classic. Instead, the break might allow him to only miss one or two starts while he recuperates.
In place of Carmona, for now, the Indians have activated closer Chris Perez. from MLB's bereavement list. Perez had been away from the team recently following the passing of his grandmother.
