An interview with one of the nations best high school recruits, Alex Poythress, has now spawned an investigation into whether or not Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski committed a recruiting violation earlier this week. In the interview, Poythress CBS Sports of an offer from Duke, which came while his AAU team was playing in Florida. However, the timing of the offer could be trouble for Duke and Krzyzewski.
According to reports, Duke is investigating whether or not a violation did occur, and is checking into Krzyzewski's actions at the AAU tournament.
Duke spokesman Jon Jackson said in a statement Saturday that the school is gathering facts and that "proper adherence to NCAA bylaws has always been, and will continue to be, a cornerstone of Duke Athletics."
Even if some kind of recruiting violation occurred, there's no way it's anything major. Compared to other investigations that involve payments to players and academic impropriety, Duke allegedly verbally offered a recruit a scholarship a few days before it was actually allow. And, again, this is all coming from an interview that Poythress may have misspoke in.
If this is the worst case of shady recruiting we can find on the AAU circuit, then we're just not looking hard enough.
