VIDEO: Nationals Attempt Rare 'Homicide Squeeze'

On Wednesday night, Washington Nationals hitter Wilson Ramos missed a squeeze sign, swinging away instead. Luckily, the ball was fouled away from baserunner Michael Morse, and so the very rare homicide squeeze was avoided. (Video of the homicide squeeze is here; video of a surprising second attempt on the next play is below.)

For your benefit, please consult this short summary of "-icide" squeezes:

  • Suicide squeeze: the batter lays down a sacrifice bunt while the runner on third base bolts for home.
  • Homicide squeeze: the runner on base bolts for home and the batter smacks a line drive directly at him.
  • Regicide squeeze: the baserunner is a Kansas City Royal.
  • Infanticide squeeze: the baserunner is Omar Infante.
  • Fratricide squeeze: the baserunner is Bryce Harper.
