Edinson Cavani Injured In Uruguay's Copa America Match Against Chile

In the opening minutes of Friday's first Copa America match, Gonzalo Jara of Chile collided with Edinson Cavani of Uruguay, clipping his ankles in midair and forcing a horrible landing. While Cavani went on to play the rest of the first half, it was clear that he felt out of sorts, and it was really no surprise when Oscar Tabarez replaced the striker with Alvaro Gonzalez at the start of the second half.

At first, the move seemed precautionary, letting one of Uruguay's best players rest due to a little knock on the ankle. Unfortunately, rumours this morning suggest more, that Cavani managed to hurt his knee as he fell, and will be rested for the match against Mexico.

Meanwhile, Napoli supporters hold their breath, waiting for more news on their prolific forward. Cavani scored 26 goals in Serie A last season and was certainly one of the reasons that the partenopei secured Champions League play. With whisperings of one or both of Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi leaving the club, it's more essential than ever that Cavani's injury is not serious.
