If you were looking for a very interesting, telling, awe-inspiring quote from Jurgen Klinsmann after his USMNT debut against Mexico, you didn't get it. Sorry if you're disappointed, but all we got out of Jurgen was predictable friendly-speak after the game, in which he says he saw lots plenty of positives, but that he saw things that we needed to work on as well. He would have said the exact same thing had the USA lost 3-0 or won 3-0.
Still, here's a quote from last night's press conference. It's about the youngins!
"I think we can be very satisfied with that performance...It was great to see some young players stepping into this team and being guided by the experienced ones. The spirit and the energy from the experienced ones, it's fun to watch. It's enjoyable to see how they go for it."
That seems most applicable to Brek Shea, who went all reckless abandon on the game when he came in, bombing up and down the left flank. Robbie Rogers, the goal-scorer, looked better than he's looked in a USMNT or Columbus Crew shirt in two years, while Jose Torres and Michael Orozco both put in good shifts.
The team has two friendlies coming up, against Costa Rica and Belgium in September. Klinsmann should have closer to a full side and will get a chance to look at more players. Though, managers of MLS and FMF teams won't be too happy about their players being taken to Europe during an important part of the season.
