Jaguars Vs. Patriots: Blaine Gabbert Looking Solid, Jags Defense...Not So Much

Starting quarterbacks Tom Brady and David Garrard are sitting out the first preseason games for the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars, meaning that fans are getting a good look at rookie Blaine Gabbert and Pats backup Brian Hoyer. Both have impressed early on, and the Patriots lead the Jaguars by a score of 16-9 in the second quarter.

The Jags are using a conservative gameplan, trying to get Gabbert into a rhythm and keeping him out of harm's way. He's throwing mostly short, conservative passes and was 3/5 passing on a good field goal drive. He's 5/10 on the night with a long of 15.

Hoyer is ripping up the Jags defense and is currently 8/11 passing for 115 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was a nice eight play, 49 yard drive after a fumble in which Hoyer cut through the defense easily. The Patriots are struggling to establish the run, though, as neither Danny Woodhead or Stevan Ridley has gotten it going yet.
