Hiram Eugene Injury: Oakland Raiders Safety Carted Off After Injuring Leg

Stay connected with SB Nation

Oakland Raiders back-up free safety Hiram Eugene left the game after suffering what appeared to be a dramatic leg injury. The extent of the injury is not yet known.

Eugene was injured in the third quarter of Oakland's preseason debut against the Arizona Cardinals. The 30-year-old was playing well, compiling a team-leading four tackles in limited action at the time of the injury. He was unable to leave the field under his own power, and was carted out by team doctors.

Undrafted out of Louisiana Tech, Eugene joined the Oakland Raiders in 2007. In four years with the team, he has served as a spot starter in the secondary while providing depth in nickel and dime packages. He signed a new contract to stay in Oakland over the off-season.
