Hyped welterweight prospect Jorge Lopez (11-1) has agreed to terms on a multi-fight contract with the UFC, according to an announcement from his mentor, MMA legend Wanderlei Silva. Lopez will make his Octagon debut at "UFC Fight Night 25: Shields vs. Ellenberger" against Justin Edwards (6-1).
Lopez enters the promotion on the heels of a ten-fight win streak that stretches back to 2008. The 22-year-old trains with Silva's Wand Fight Team in Las Veags, and includes a 23-second technical knockout victory over Lee Doss on his résumé. He also possesses wins over Strikeforce veterans Wayne Phillips and Waachiim Spiritwolf, and WEC veteran Dave Terrel.
Edwards looks to rebound after recording his first professional setback in his promotional debut -- a split decision loss against Clay Harvison in June. The 28-year-old trains with Team Jorge Gurgel in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a competitor on season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter."
"UFC Fight Night 25: Shields vs. Ellenberger" will be held September 17th at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is headlined by a highly anticipated five-round, non-title welterweight bout between former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields and talented up-and-comer Jake Ellenberger. The event will be broadcast live on Spike.
