Jets Vs. Texans Final Score: Backup Quarterbacks, Defenses Look Solid In 20-16 Houston Win

It's tough to get a whole lot out of the second half of the first preseason game of the season, but the New York Jets and Houston Texans will probably be satisfied with the performances that they got out of their backups on Monday night. Both teams should feel a little more confident in their depth, particularly on the defensive side of the ball after the game. Not that it's of any particular importance in Week 1 of preseason, but Houston were the proclaimed winners in a game which apparently had a winner, winning by a final score of 20-16.

The biggest winners might be third string quarterbacks Greg McIlroy and T.J. Yates, who made good progress towards winning roster spots with good performances. However, both were good and not great, as both teams' backup defenses looked very solid.

Texans' rookies J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed were both impressive, while Xavier Adibi also looked fantastic. The Jets' defensive MVP was Josh Muaga, who had an absolute monster of a game with a sack, two tackles for a loss, two quarterback hits, and an interception.

In Week 2 of the preseason, the Jets take on the Cincinnati Bengals at home while the Texans host the New Orleans Saints.
