MLB Draft Signing Deadline: Bonuses For The First Sixty Picks

The deadline for teams to sign their 2011 draft picks expired on Monday night, creating several new millionaires. These teenagers and young adults will probably do stupid things with all of this money, like invest in the stock market, but that's because young people are stupid.

The biggest contract went to Virginia left-hander Danny Hultzen, who received a $6.35 million dollar bonus, a major-league deal, and $8.5 million guaranteed. The Pirates signed top pick Gerrit Cole for the largest straight bonus in draft history, but they avoided using a roster spot on a major-league contract.

Two players in the first 60 picks did not sign, both high-school draftees: Blue Jays first-rounder Tyler Beede, who turned down $2.5 million and will instead attend to Vanderbilt, and Padres supplemental first-rounder Brett Austin, who will go to North Carolina State.

Here's a list of the first rounders and supplemental first-rounders, with their guaranteed money linked to the first source to report it. The players in bold received a major-league contract. The players whose bonuses are underlined signed before the August 15th deadline, so you can see if there's a difference in the bonuses of the players who sign early (hint: yes).
