In today's edition of 'Social Media Is Fantastic', a group of Vancouver Canucks fans are organizing a memorial for deceased former Canuck Rick Rypien, who passed away on Monday. There is currently an event set up on Facebook and the organizers are encouraging any and all fans to come join. Fans are going to be setting up outside of Rogers Arena on Wednesday all afternoon, paying their respects to Rypien. The organizers of the memorial plan to collect messages from the attendees in a book and deliver it to Rypien's family.
The Vancouver Canucks themselves issued a statement about Rypien's passing earlier on Tuesday. The 27-year-old, recently signed by the Winnipeg Jets, was found dead in his Alberta, Canada home on Monday. Details are yet to be released, but police have confirmed that the nature of his passing was not suspicious.
