Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid, 2011 Spanish Supercup: Karim Benzema Goal Equalizes Tie At 4-4

Stay connected with SB Nation

What a tie this has been. The 2011 Spanish Supercup has been about as fantastic as these glorified friendly competitions can be, probably because Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are treating it much more like a proper Clasico than a preseason match. Los Merengues have been on the front foot for the entirety of the second half, but for most of it they had nothing to show for it. That is, until the 81st minute, when Karim Benzema scored to level proceedings at 4-4 on aggregate, 2-2 on the night.

The goal came off of a corner, which should be no surprise to anyone. Madrid have created corner kick after corner kick, with Benzema and Sergio Ramos recording a couple of bad misses. This time Benzema made no mistake, tapping home a goal after a lengthy scramble.
