Vince Browne NFL Draft prospect notes

Vince Browne
6'5, 265 pounds | Defensive end | Northwestern

First word:
Browne has been a consistent performer for the Wildcats since being named a second-team freshman All-American in 2008. His sack totals have increased from 4 to 5 to 7 last season. Browne was one of the Big Ten's better defensive linemen last, finishing with 58 tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss.

As a prospect, Browne is a solid all-around player. He's the kind of player who isn't a detriment against the run or pass. His game is similar to Detroit Lions defensive end Lawrence Jackson.

Bold statement: Browne will be a  good defensive end for an NFL team if he's used as part of a rotation.

Notes:

• More than anything, Browne is a hustle pass rusher. He typically plays over the left tackle and uses power to get pressure.

• Doesn't have the best quickness or agility so he's not the best at turning the corner and getting in the backfield with athleticism.

• Gets good leg drive to push the offensive linemen backward through the whistle.

• More explosive than quick off the snap. Is a step late at times getting off the line of scrimmage.

• Struggles at times to disengage from blocks and needs to work on his hand technique some.

• Against the run, Browne maintains his area when it comes in his direction. When it goes away from him, Browne shows nice effort working down the line.

• Has played linebacker some in the past and it will be interesting to see if some teams look at him standing up.
